Protein Synthesis and ATP Concentration of Regenerating Liver in Rats after Partial Hepatectomy

Abstract
This study was undertaken to observe -possible change of ATP concentration in regenerating liver. Incorporation of L-lysine-19C into liver protein and liver ATP concentration were examined on the first, second, third, sixth and ninth posthepatectomy days after removal of median and left lateral lobes in rats.
The incorporation rate of L-lysine-19C into liver protein showed a significant increase on the first posthepatectomy day and reached at the maximum rate after 2 days. The increased rate of protein synthesis dropped markedly after 6 days and returned to almost normal level on the ninth. posthepatectomy day.
The ATP concentration in regenerating liver showed a :significant decrease in the early stage of the .regenration especially on the third posthepatectomy day when the protein syntesis was elevated at the maximum. On the sixth day, the ATP concentration was slightly elevated and retuned to the normal level on the ninth posthepatectomy day.
